CD & Associates Completes Replacement of 30,000 CFM Air Handler Unit Serving Active Facility
CD & Associates recently completed the replacement of a 30,000 CFM roof top unit (RTU) for our pharmaceutical client in Malvern PA within their active facility. This project required the removal and replacement of a 30,000 CFM York RTU with a new unit manufactured by Daiken, over a weekend shutdown, in an occupied building. Working with Genesis Engineering in Plymouth Meeting, PA, CD & Associates managed and coordinated the project with pre-planning activities, including preliminary CFM readings from the existing unit and conveyance to Genesis, survey and layout of new duct curbs on existing roof joists, prefabrication of ductwork and refrigerant piping, as well as performing early installations of power wiring and circuit breakers, control software and graphics packages. The existing RTU was decommissioned after hours on a Friday night, removed from the existing steel dunnage the following day and replaced with the new unit, followed by final connections of ductwork, power wiring, controls and refrigerant piping. The final day consisted of refrigerant piping installation, RTU start-up, CFM readings and automatic re-start and shutdown of the RTU before leaving on-line for the work week.
