CD & Associates Highlights – Spring 2023

CD & Associates proudly sponsored this year’s 25th Annual Women in Construction Week, celebrating women’s success in the construction industry. We promoted WIC week through various activities, including raising awareness and supporting the National Education Foundation. Our employee spotlight featured Alexis Scrivano-Bangs, a valued member of our team.

The week culminated in our 4th Annual Celebration Luncheon and a keynote presentation by Dr. Thomas RaShad Easley from Mind Heart for Diversity Consulting, emphasizing the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We’re committed to turning our thoughts into actions and giving back to the construction industry and the community at large.

CD & Associates takes immense pride in recognizing the unwavering commitment and exceptional efforts of our subcontractors throughout the demolition phase of our data center upgrades project. We understand the ongoing challenges they faced while working on active systems and the vital importance of preserving our clients’ operations without disruption.

In appreciation of their dedicated work and the significant milestone achieved in completing the demolition activities, we organized a special luncheon in May. This gathering served as a token of gratitude and a moment of celebration for our collective achievements. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those involved for their unwavering dedication and their commitment to maintaining a safe and well-organized work environment.

We are always learning!

OSHA 510 – OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry

In March 2023, CD & Associates sponsored a 4-day OSHA 510 course for safety and health professionals. The course, delivered by a former OSHA acting Area Director at Rutgers School of Public Health, focused on Federal OSHA policies, procedures, and construction safety principles. Attendees included CD & Associates’ safety professionals, contract safety professionals, and Merck Global Engineering Solutions personnel.

The comprehensive course covered topics such as OSHA construction standards, hazard identification, and application of regulations. Upon completion, students gained the ability to define construction terms, locate relevant OSHA standards, and utilize them to enhance ongoing safety and health programs. Refreshment of the OSHA 510 certification is often required every 5 years by many of our clients.

EnterTraining Solutions – Confined Space Training

The CD & Associates team recently completed a 4-hour confined space training session to identify and manage hazards on our projects. We partnered with EnterTraining Solutions, a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB), and engaged Monica Rakoczy, a subject matter expert, to conduct the training.

Confined spaces are areas not designed for continuous occupancy but large enough for workers to enter and perform specific tasks. Examples include tanks, silos, manholes, and pipelines. Each year, about 92 workers die in confined space-related incidents, emphasizing the need to understand the associated hazards. Poor air quality, limited oxygen, radiation, toxic gases, extreme temperatures, structural issues, explosive substances, and electrical hazards can quickly turn deadly. Having a rescue plan in place is crucial to prepare for worst-case scenarios.
